The history of Maison Sambin

ORIGIN
“Sambin” originates from a French commune located in the Loir-et-Cher department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Situated in the center of the department, the commune is part of the small agricultural region “la Sologne viticole”, a vast expanse of woods, ponds and meadows.

This is also an African commune located in the Bazėga province of the Centre-Sud region of Burkina Faso. The commune of Sambin, also known as Saponé, is a territory famous for its iconic hats.
Today, Sambin is the name of a famous family from Guadeloupe originating from the commune of Le Moule, located in the northeast of the island of Grande-Terre on the Atlantic coast; their activity is mainly agricultural and touristic.

SAMBIN FAMILY
The Sambin family has owned sugar cane fields since 1963, and several agricultural lands which at the time were used for the development of a very large rum distillery brand.
The first to arrive in Guadeloupe was Eustache Sambin, known as "Caillau", who was born in Africa (in present-day Burkina Faso) in the commune of Saponé (Sambin).
Eustache is a "Moaga" (Mossi people of present-day Burkina Faso) he was deported to the Antilles under the registration number 1325. He officially obtained his name "Sambin" by decree in 1848.

EUSTACHE SAMBIN
He was called "Eustache" in reference to the ferrule knife, implying that he was a very useful person, and also known as "Caillau," a term used at the time to describe a rocky and difficult path. Eustache Sambin, known as "Caillau," was a strong, rugged, and helpful man in the sugarcane fields.
The Sambin legacy and transmission?
The importance of culture, cultural universality. The legacy that Eustache leaves to his son "Gideon" and then to his grandchildren...
passed down from generation to generation. The importance of the cultural origin of Caribbeans and Africans in general is evident in the way they have spread throughout the world, creating a mixed, yet universal, culture.
The movement of African peoples across the world initially influenced the emerging cultures of the colonies, but also played a significant role in the evolution of modern civilization. It is within this atmosphere of transmission and respect for lineage that the world of the Sambin people grew.
