Inspiration

ShangoHe reigned over the great kingdom of Oyo (present-day Nigeria) in the 15th century. He was a powerful, tyrannical king, feared by his people. Fire and smoke spewed from his mouth.

He is the orisha of fire, lightning, and thunder, always armed with a double axe and accompanied by a ram. Shango was synonymous with terror and power. It was by summoning lightning that he destroyed his own palace. His three wives are Oya, Oshun, and Oba; he is represented by the colors red and white, and his sacred number is four.
